I had a very productive weekend with creating a muslin of dear, sweet Cambie, and was able to start sewing after only that ONE muslin! I was very happy indeed, and am feeling the lovely glow you get when working with a Sewaholic pattern. Everyone talks about what a smooth process this dress was, but I didn’t believe it until I experienced it!
Unfortunately, I was too zoned in on sewing and didn’t get any in progress pictures (d’oh!), and don’t have the hems and waistband sewn, so photos of and chat about Cambie will need to wait until after she gets worn this Saturday, for our housewarming party! That reminds me…I need to clean the house like a mofo.
So, in lieu of that, I bring you the fabrics that I’ve purchased in the last month or so. I realize that it’s actual Wednesday today, so Textile Tuesday doesn’t quite work…but I swear it will in future months! :P I figure once a month fabric porn is better than every-time-I-buy-fabric porn (I’m so freakin’ naughty…sheeeit).
I placed this order on fabric.com a few weeks ago when they had a deal of the day sale on knits (up to 50% off!). I have lots of solid knits, but very few prints, so I decided to step out of my usual fabric buying box and ended up with these jersey knits:
Crazy ass ITY knit – super awesome tactile-wise…slinky and cool to the touch. Will most likely be a bitch to cut and sew. It’s such a big scale and so colorful, I don’t know that I have the balls to wear it. But I will…oh yes, I will.
Another ITY. I’m kind of in love with this print and I don’t know why – I was skeptical I’d like it in person when I ordered it. It’s going to make a lovely long sleeved dress that I can wear this Autumn. It’s a strong contender for Vogue 8825 (which happens to be on sale for $3.88 this week! Also – McCall’s $1.88 and Butterick $2.88)
This knit has a touch of lycra and is a bit “warmer” feeling than the ITY knits (if ya know what I mean). It’s pretty taupe/gray in the background, and is almost Laura Ashley-esque, but I love me some purple. When I showed my fabrics to my boss she saw this one and asked what I was going to make her. I asked what she wanted but she never replied. :P
But received this instead:
This happens sometimes at fabric.com (2 or 3 times to me so far). At least they still had the colorway I originally wanted in stock and were able to send it out to me. They didn’t even ask me to send the incorrect blue fabric back, so I guess I have a couple of flowery options. I’m not crazy about the feel of these fabrics, they have very little stretch, and the flowers are just a little too…Blossom but I’m sure I’ll find a use for them.
So, I have a bunch of new fabric and am almost done with my Cambie. I’m just not sure what I want to do next…there are just so many possibilities! Maybe a top? An Autumn coat? (Facing some eventualities here) I’ve had fabric for Lady Grey for 2 or 3 years now, and I have the pattern for Minoru traced and ready to go…
